A Note from the Borderlands

I’m Christine Taylor, a Christian author, speaker, prayer teacher, and lover of supernatural tales.

I named my newsletter “The Borderlands”. Why?

In early to mid-medieval Europe, the borderlands were the mysterious halfway house for the supernatural, a sort of No-Man’s Land where human beings entered at their peril. This half-physical, half-mythical realm was where the original “Here be dragons” might be true.

Sometimes entering was for a very good reason. St. Anthony the Great frequently braved the borderlands to repel masses of demons. The hero Beowulf killed the horrible Grendel in a Viking meeting hall, but entered the borderlands to off Grendel’s even more horrible mother. And most travelers knew to stay on the roads, because if you wandered into the wildlands what might meet you there?
