It’s early October 1926. Grace and her husband Justin are thrilled to be invited to Washington DC by the newly created Federal Bureau of Investigation. They can’t imagine what the FBI would want to talk to them about, but it is certainly exciting.

When they get there, they find out that the FBI is very concerned about a few German citizens who have entered the country in the last year, seven years after the end of World War 1. Most of the Germans are honest people, anxious to escape a starving Germany.

But a few of them have shadowy ties to an occult organization based in Munich: the mysterious Thule Society. Harmless folklorists? Or true believers causing a disturbing rise in occultism in desperate, war-torn Germany and beyond?

It’s not a theoretical question. Remote Pennsylvania German communities are going dark following a visit by Thule members. Now another one looks like it’s joining them.

Grace and Justin agree to go. After all, how tough could a few folklorists and a couple of farmers be? And who takes a town called Pithole seriously?

But the strange settlement of Pithole, Pennsylvania has its secrets. And those secrets are getting deeper and darker every passing hour.
